Always a Good Time

Northvillians love to be active, engaging in the community in a variety of ways. The town and people take any opportunity to gather for music, food, parades, dancing, arts and shopping, especially their much-loved pedestrian social district called The Twist.

The much-loved Farmers Market opens in May with their annual Flower Sale at the end of the month, along with the first parade of many in Northville, the Memorial Day Parade. The Summer Concert Series starts in June and runs all summer as well as Tunes on Tuesday mornings for kids of all ages.

The annual Art in the Sun Festival is also in June and showcases contemporary art, handicraft work and unique creations by fine artists and crafters.

With July comes the 4th of July Parade and the start of Dancin’ in the Ville, lessons every Wednesday with a different type of dance offered each week. The Buy Michigan Now Festival in August is a great way to support small businesses.

Every business must be Michigan-based to participate, and many will be selling products made locally. During the festival, in the social downtown district, there is entertainment, book signings, demonstrations and family-friendly activities.

Downtown Northville also hosts the Victorian Festival in September with live entertainment and activities all weekend long. Don’t miss the Victorian Parade that launches the festival on Friday night and then enjoy live music, theatrical performances, Victorian-era reenactors, educational presentations and shopping at various venders. Finish out the weekend with the community duck races.

To kick off fall, the Skeletons Are Alive Festival brings a family-friendly event downtown with live entertainment, food vendors and, of course, skeletons. Shop owners shower kids with treats and goodies during the Street of Treats event Saturday before Halloween, and Northville neighborhoods near the town center host one of the best community Halloweens in Michigan.

People come from all over to trick-or-treat the extravagantly decorated houses decked out with hundreds of lights and all things ghoulish.

End the year by enjoying the annual Winter Greens Market and get in the holiday spirit with some early Christmas shopping topped off with the Holiday Lighted Parade.
